Accepting Applications for Future Position of Reserve Firefighter

The Wellington Fire Protection District is accepting applications for the position of Reserve Firefighter. The Reserve Firefighter is a non-paid sworn member of the fire district that is required to shift 48 hours per month at the fire station in 12-hour increments (up to 48 hours at one time). The 12-hour increments are defined as 0700-1900 and 1900-0700. This position is supervised by the Shift Captain, and duties include emergency response, public education, training and station maintenance among others. Wellington FPD has two staffed stations and its employees work a 48/96 shift. The Reserve Firefighter receives a monthly stipend and will gain firefighter and EMS experience in a progressive environment.


Minimum requirements (required by start date):

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current DFPC Firefighter I
  • Current DFPC Hazardous Materials Operations
  • Current State of Colorado EMTB
  • Current CPR Provider
  • NIMS IS100 & IS700 (available online)
  • Current CPAT (physical agility test) certificate

    Single Role Paramedic

    Applicants that pass the minimum requirements and testing will be placed on an eligibility list for full-time openings within the organization. These positions are supervised by the Company Officer and duties include emergency response, public education, training and station and equipment maintenance among others. Wellington FPD is a fast-growing, progressive organization that has two staffed stations and its shift employees work a 48/96 schedule.


    Minimum requirements (Required by assessment date):
    All applicants:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Current CPR Provider
    • Current CPAT certificate within the previous 12 months
    • Current NTN test score within the previous 12 months
    • College degree preferred

      Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/EMTP:

    • Current IFSAC Firefighter I
    • Current IFSAC Hazardous Materials Operations
    • Current State of Colorado EMT/EMTP or NREMT/NREMTP
    • Current ACLS and PALS (EMTP only)

     Single Role Paramedic

    • Current State of Colorado EMTP or NREMTP
    • Current ACLS and PALS
    • Satisfactory passing of an in-house firefighter academy (post-hire date)

    All applicants are welcome to join the reserve force that receive a stipend and require 48 hours a month in volunteer time after a satisfactory assessment ranking.
